I'm new to the DB and this might have been said a hundred times so excuse me if this thought is a repeat. I believe the Black Rock wound up on the middle of the island by accident when someone and I don't know who moved the island and when the Island appeared in it's new location it just rose out of the water where the Black Rock was sailing therefore placing it in the middle of the Island. I know some have said that the BR was sailing to the Island in the last episode but Jake and MIB never said it was the BR so that could have been any ship.

I'll agree with and advance that a little bit.

I've said on the ReThinking LOST podcast that I don't think the island moves physically, but rather, the doorway through which it can be seen/reached phases in and out. The island is always there, but unless you approach it along a particular vector, you pass right through, over, by it.

The closest analogy I can give you is what you see here...  an anamorphis
http://www.dailycognition.com/index.php/2008/08/29/unbelievable-anamorphic-illusion.html

Anyway,
I think that it's more than visual... it's physcial... you can pass through the "island" completely oblivious to it, unless you approach at that vector.

I suspect the Black Rock was at sea... in the island's location, but at the wrong angle... and then the island's angle changed (wheel turned)... and the island came in phase... and materialized where ocean used to be.

The island was always there, like the art in that link, but it suddenly came into view because the angle required to view/interact with it changed (wheel turned).

Island, I've thought this as well since we first heard that the island can move.  Keep up the thoughts.  Hopefully S6 will answer it.
